A native San Franciscan, based
in Santa Fe since 1993, Nina Farana comes to her art as much
by instinct and passion as by formal education. Her background
in communication, dance and poetry has played an important role
in forging the artist's vision. So, too, have the challenges
and conundrums, the dreams and dichotomies of everyday life.
"I look for relationships between the whole and its parts,"
she says. "Each creation - a dance, a poem or a collage
- is a journey of hope that starts in silence: the reward is
in finding common ground for apparent contradictions, in seeing
shared sympathies emerge from vastly different elements."
Nina Farana has a B.A. in Communications from Stanford University where she also pursued graduate studies in Dance Education. For more than 30 years, she has been active in the field of dance as a choreographer and producer, as well as a solo and ensemble performer. She is the founding director of Inside Out Arts, a dance theater company. In addition, she has written several volumes of poetry, which explore many of the same realms as her visual art.
She currently is adding to her collection of finely crafted collages.
